Sonoko Takasu is Yasuko's mother and Ryuuji's grandmother.
Personality[]
Sonoko seems to be the more lenient of Yasuko's parents, giving her tea and snacks while Seiji scolded her, with Seiji claiming that she always spoils Yasuko.
Background[]
When Yasuko got pregnant at a young age, her parents wanted her to give up the baby. Yasuko insisted on raising the child, and eventually ran away from home, stealing valuable items from her parents' home that she could sell.
Plot[]
After Ryuuji and Taiga had resolved the elope and run away from home, they went back home to get some things they would need for their journey. When Ryuuji arrived, however, he found Seiji's watch, a note, and a map to Ryuuji's grandparents' house. Yasuko had evidently run away as well. The note instructed Ryuuji to show the watch to his grandparents, and that they would know who he was. Ryuuji then decided that he would not run away after all, and went to his grandparent's house, introducing Taiga as his bride. The night that they stayed at Ryuuji's grandparents' house, Sonoko insisted that Ryuuji and Taiga sleep in the same bed, since they would be getting married soon. Ryuuji wonders if Sonoko is the reason that Yasuko turned out the way she did.
A few days later, Taiga called Yasuko and told her to come to her parents' house, claiming that Ryuuji had been in an accident. Yasuko rushed over, only to learn that it was a lie to get Yasuko to come back home after being gone for so long. This lead to a tearful reunion with her parents, finally reconciling after over ten years apart, with Sonoko telling Yasuko that she did a great job raising Ryuuji.
